COLDCARD & BlackBox

A guide for Bitcoin home miners on setting up their BlackBox and handling their mining rewards in a privacy-preserving manner before going to cold storage. Mining Bitcoin goes hand in hand with self-custody, the miner provides a Bitcoin address in order to receive the rewards and the mining pool pays out to the provided address. This guide aims to demonstrate setting up a new BlackBox install and a few tools that can be used to handle the mining rewards in a way that helps maintain the anonymity gained from mining and sees that through to cold storage...

Upstream Data DIY Black Box

This guide will show you how to use less than $150 in commonly available materials to build an ASIC enclosure that can attenuate the noise by 20dB. The original idea for this enclosure design was put in the public domain by Steve Barbour of Upstream Data around the end of August 2021. The intent of the BlackBox enclosure is to allow the user to run their mining ASIC hardware outdoors where the heat and noise could more easily be controlled or dissipated. Excessive heat and noise are common problems users experience when mining bitcoin in the home or working space...

How we set up a natural gas well for bitcoin mining

Recently we set up a local gas well with our Hash Generator bitcoin mining datacenters. The goal for this project was to build a very modular and low cost bitcoin mine on a stranded upstream oil and gas well. This gas well had been sitting in a farmers field for about 10 years or so, unable to produce due to low commodity prices. Bitcoin mining is an optional revenue source alongside selling gas to a pipeline. Since bitcoin mines are portable, this solution can be deployed on almost every oil and gas facility in the world...

Case Study: Hash Generators prevent mineral lease expiry

Bitcoin mining 'Hash Generators' save Alberta producer's mineral lease. One of the beautiful properties about bitcoin is that mining acts as a portable sales point for electricity no matter where it is located. While interest continues to grow in the more commonly discussed oilfield bitcoin mining applications such as conserving vent and flare gas and revitalizing economically stranded gas wells, one use case that is not receiving as much attention is deploying our portable Ohmm™ mining datacenters to prevent mineral lease agreements from costly expiration...
